Register below to join us on Sunday, May 19 at 2 pm!
Hew Locke (British, b. 1959) is a London-based artist working in different media, who also spent a formative period in Georgetown, Guyana. His sculptural installation Gravesend (2019) is presently on view at the Currier Museum of Art, displayed as part of its Stories of the Sea exhibition. Gravesend recently entered the museum’s permanent collection.
Locke will give a public talk at the Currier on May 19, focusing on the artwork currently on display. The artist is in New England for his forthcoming exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston, and while at the Currier he will also discuss The Procession, the large installation originally commissioned by Tate Britain in London that will be unveiled at the ICA. Additionally, he will discuss his recent facade commission at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and Armada, a large installation closely connected to the Currier’s piece presently exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in his home city.
