Nicolas Party and Surrealism: An Artist’s Take on the Movement
On view April 10 to September 1, 2025
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Surrealist Manifesto (1924), Nicolas Party and Surrealism: An Artist’s Take on the Movement explores the lasting influence of Surrealism through the work of contemporary artist Nicolas Party. Curated by Lorenzo Fusi, the exhibition presents a unique dialogue between historical Surrealist masterpieces and Party’s own vibrant creations. Featuring works by Surrealist icons such as Joan Miró, Francis Picabia, and Yves Tanguy alongside pieces by groundbreaking female artists like Doris Lee and Gertrude Abercrombie, this exhibition offers a fascinating look at the movement’s enduring impact on art today.
Known for his use of bold pastels and immersive, large-scale murals, Party’s work invites visitors to experience art in new, dynamic ways. His past exhibitions, including L’heure mauve at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, demonstrate his skill in bridging historical and contemporary art. In this exhibition, Party’s installations provide a compelling response to Surrealism’s influence, enriching the ongoing conversation about the movement’s relevance in the 21st century.
Join us for a thought-provoking exploration of Surrealism’s legacy, on view from April 10 to September 1, 2025.

artist in residence
Our Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program invites artists to live and work at the museum. While in residence, artists consider the collection and community, and refresh our perspectives on the role of the museum. The program is central to the Currier Museum’s mission of connecting our audiences with art and creative thinking, whether of the past or the future. We hope to learn from our visiting artists – and be surprised by their perspectives.
Artists working in all media participate in the AIR program, which has three main components: 1) an open call to support emerging artists making socially engaged art; 2) an invitational through which artists are selected to develop special projects, commissions, or exhibitions; and 3) artist-led, community-centered public art projects in the city of Nashua, NH.
Open Call for Artist in Residence Applications
Our annual open call is currently live from October 1 – December 1, 2022. Artists who share the museum’s goal of positively impacting communities through the transformative power of art are encouraged to apply to this residency.
