Mixing Magic: Color Lab

Dates: July 15, 16, and 17

Discover the magic of mixing! In this colorific workshop, students will love learning how artists use color to express mood, tell stories, and create eye-catching designs. A Closer Look:
Drawing and Painting the Natural World with
John O’Shaughnessy

Dates: Saturday, August 22

Cost: $150 ($135 for Members)

Slow down, take a closer look, and sharpen your powers of observation in this immersive workshop, focused on the natural world and landscape. Working with a variety of drawing media and watercolor, participants will explore line, light, color, perspective, and composition while drawing inspiration from the museum’s collection and upcoming exhibitions. Best suited for students with some prior experience; all materials are provided.

Let’s Draw! Exploring Compositional Techniques
with Peter Clive

Artist Peter Clive is giving all his secrets away! In this engaging two day workshop, students will learn a variety of tips and tricks professional artists use to create compelling compositions and expressive drawings. Working directly from works in the museum’s collection, participants will experiment with pencil and charcoal techniques while exploring how line, shading, and composition work together to strengthen an artwork and enhance their own creative practice. All materials are provided.

Chasing Color: A Plein Air Watercolor Workshop with Nancy Friese at the grounds of the Zimmerman House

Dates: Tuesday, October 6

Cost: $325 ($292.50 for Members)

Experience this rare opportunity to paint on the extraordinary grounds of the Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman House with acclaimed nature artist Nancy Friese. Friese's work is currently featured in the Currier's exhibition Radical Quiet, making this a unique opportunity to learn directly from a celebrated exhibiting artist. Participants will enjoy a private tour of one of Frank Lloyd Wright's finest preserved homes before exploring plein air watercolor techniques inspired by its seamless integration of architecture, landscape, light, and color. Designed for artists with some previous experience, this specialty workshop includes all materials and a catered lunch.

The Mindful Sketchbook: Drawing Nature with Melissa Richard

Slow down and discover the creative possibilities of keeping a sketchbook in this five-week class inspired by the Currier's new exhibition, Radical Quiet. Through gallery visits, observation, and hands-on studio exploration, participants will experiment with drawing, watercolor, and mixed-media techniques while developing their own personal sketching practice. Open to all experience levels, with all materials provided.

Explorations in Natural Ink Making and Painting with Margot Glass

Discover the fascinating tradition of creating and painting with handcrafted natural inks in this specialty workshop led by Radical Quiet exhibiting artist Margot Glass. Participants will enjoy learning about organic ink-making, expressive mark-making, and experimental drawing and painting techniques inspired by historical and contemporary artists. Some drawing experience recommended, all materials are included, and each participant will leave with a curated art kit to continue their creative exploration at home!

Discover the expressive beauty and intensity of Florentine Baroque portraiture in this four week drawing class with professional artist and educator Peter Clive. Inspired by masterpieces in the Currier's Florentine Baroque exhibition, participants will develop skills in proportion, observation, and the dramatic use of light and shadow. Suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike, with all materials provided.

Dream Spaces: Construction, Assemblage, and Collage with Kristi Nyhan  

Dates: Saturday, November 21

Cost: $170 ($153 for Members)

Inspired by the Currier's exhibition Pepe Mar: Dream House, this imaginative workshop invites participants to create an eclectic mixed-media artwork inspired by memory, imagination, and personal storytelling. Beginning with a special exhibition tour led by Currier Curator Anastasia Kinigopoulo, participants will explore collage, assemblage, and sculpture through layered materials, found objects, and expressive techniques to construct their own dream-inspired works of art. Participants are encouraged to bring meaningful found objects or treasured keepsakes to incorporate into their creations; all other materials will be provided.
