December Contemporary Craft Series: adults

The Currier Museum of Art is excited to partner with the League of NH Craftsmen to offer a series of one-of-a-kind introductory experiences from local Master Craft artists. Each workshop in the series will feature a different project that will serve as an introduction to fine craft as a valuable human expression.

Artful Handmade Journals: Pamphlet and Chain Stitch Bookmaking with Joy Malcolm 

Saturday, December 2 

10:30 am to 3:30 pm  

Learn how to create your own hardcover and softcover journals in this mixed media bookbinding workshopBeginner bookbinding techniques will be introduced and methods for decorating papers will be exploredA variety of papers will be provided, and you will leave with two, one-of-a-kind handmade journals! Give them as gifts or start filling them with your own writing and art! 

This workshop will include an additional materials fee of $10 paid directly to the instructor on the day of the workshop.

The Wonderful World of Wool with Rachel Montroy

10:30 am to 3:30 pm

Learn how to turn fluffy, colorful wool into soft sculptures of any style using basic needle felting and wet felting techniques. No experience is necessary, just bring your imagination!

This workshop will include an additional materials fee of $20 paid directly to the instructor on the day of the workshop. Materials include a tool kit that participants get to take home for future use.

Tapestry Weaving Basics with Lisa Almeida 

Saturday, December 16 

10:30 am to 3:30 pm  

In this workshop, students will create images with fiber using a simple tapestry loom. Join us as we weave a tiny tapestry from start to finish, and learn more about this decorative, functional and expressive art form! 

This workshop will include an additional materials fee of $40 paid directly to the instructor on the day of the workshop. Materials include a wooden tapestry lap loom with accessories (beater comb, shuttle stick & tapestry needles) – all of which you will keep and enough cotton warp and wool to complete the class project and another like it at home.
