The Currier Museum of Art relies on you to support its programs and preserve its collection for the enjoyment of future generations.
Volunteer
The Guild of Volunteers supports the mission of the Currier Museum of Art by giving time and talent. By participating in programs and projects, volunteers inspire active public participation and strengthen the museum’s presence in the community.
Interested in volunteering?
Volunteers assist staff with a variety of tasks, including leading tours, supporting educational programs, performing administrative tasks, conducting curatorial research, and helping in the library, shop, and café.
The museum trains volunteers to lead public tours for our diverse audiences. Docents facilitate looking and interactive discussions in the collection, special exhibitions, the Frank Lloyd Wright houses, and special programs. Docents are trained to use flexible approaches that consider the interests, backgrounds, and abilities of all visitors.
We open training for docent guides each year, although we are not accepting applications for new volunteers at this time. Please check back again for new opportunities. Thank you for your interest!
History of the Guild of Volunteers
As early as 1970, volunteer docents were trained to conduct tours of the Currier Museum’s collection. In May 1982, the Guild of Volunteers was formally organized to provide “provide volunteer personnel to carry out such projects, programs, and activities as designed and requested by the museum staff and departments.” Today the Guild has approximately 100 members donating more than 6600 hours of their time annually to support all aspects of the museum’s operations.
