Morning Session: MONUMENTAL FUN! 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Who are your heroes? Are they your parents, your friends, your neighbors, your pets, artists that you admire – or maybe just someone in your imagination? This week we’ll be inspired by the master sculptor and artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens and other sculptors in the Currier’s collection. We’ll create images on gold coins, immortalize your heroes by recreating them in 2 and 3-dimensions, create balance challenge sculptures, and work with your teacher to create plaster molds so that some pieces of your artwork can be made over and over again!
Afternoon Session: THE SECRET GARDEN 1:00-4:00 pm
Imagine being able to create a world all your own … you’d be able to decide what animals, plants, trees, flowers and insects inhabit it. Does it have water? Does it have sculpture? Is it green – or perhaps blue and orange or pink and yellow? We’ll look at the gardens created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens as a source of inspiration, sculpting golden amphibians, creating reflecting pools with frogs and lily pads and working with your studio-mates to decide just what your secret places will contain!
Week-long vacation day camps are popular with families of children seeking an enrichment experience while school is out of session. All camps include supplies and an inspirational tour of the museum. Pack two snacks and a lunch to have during breaks and dress warmly for outdoor recess (weather permitting).Register
