This just might be something different from what you imagine it to be!  Think chameleons, think butterflies, think frogs, think Arctic Fox … and also think machines! This week is all about metamorphosis, and we’ll explore, invent and create beings and environments that transform themselves (for a variety of reasons!) into “otherness”! An Audubon Educator will join us one of the days with live animals friends.

SteAm Punk Art: August 7 – 11

Gears and gadgets from the steam-power era meet art to create a fantastical machine world, meshing the natural with the mechanical. Think how a sprocket or cog can be transformed into a flower … a pair of glasses into a bicycle (for a mouse!) –cams, rods and pistons into a magical forest. Using the museum’s collection as your starting point, you’ll invent and create beautiful and whimsical art objects and environments using or referencing mechanical “things” along with traditional paint, pencils, paper and clay.

This week, you’ll explore our solar system and discover the planets, moons and stars that abound in our galaxy.  Using both knowledge and imagination, you’ll create environments, civilizations, and creatures that may look radically different from what we see here on earth!  As a special experience for all Art Center campers this week, the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center’s Traveling Planetarium will be coming to us! You’ll be able explore space through their “Infinity Express” show, including images from the Hubble Space Telescope!
