For Boys and Girls ages 5-12
Celebrate your child’s Birthday at the Currier Museum Art Center and create a lasting memory for your child and guests. Your Arty Party will include an 90-minute art activity taught by a Currier Museum Art Center instructor, a half-hour birthday celebration, and a guided short visit to the Currier Museum of Art. The Art Center decorates, while parents provide refreshments and party food.
Choose from the following Arty Party themes:
- Paint an impressionist goldfish bowl inspired by the artist Childe Hassam.
- Learn to paint a portrait in the style of Pablo Picasso.
- Explore the landscapes of Neil Welliver, Claude Monet and William Zorach and paint your own landscape.
- Construct a relief sculpture using wood and recycled materials like Louise Nevelson.
- Create a wire fish mobile or a stabile inspired by the great artist Alexander Calder.
Arty Parties are scheduled on Saturdays from 1-3 p.m., from September through May. The minimum $175 fee includes up to 12 guests; each additional guest is $14. Girl and Cub Scout Art Badges
Schedule an art class at the Currier Museum Art Center for your Girl or Cub Scouts to achieve new badge requirements. Students are taught hands-on lessons in clay, painting, photography or fabric arts. These two hour-long projects are $175 for a group of 12 and include a guided tour of the Currier Museum of Art. All materials are included. Groups larger than 12 will be charged an additional $14 per student. Hand-build a piece of pottery in the Art Center’s clay studio. Experience the entire process, starting with raw clay to completing a finished glazed project. Choose from constructing a vase, tile or clay sculpture using coil and slab techniques. (Maximum number of 15 students)
Learn to paint a self-portrait or landscape inspired by artists such as Picasso, Monet or Matisse. Study the basics of line, color and composition. (Maximum number of 15 students)
Alternative Process Photography
Using the Art Center’s photography studio, learn alternative processes in black and white photography. With the use of light and transparent objects you will create interesting, abstract images. (Maximum number of 8 students)
